360-degree support.

NU’s whole-human education positioning takes a holistic approach to student well-being. We’ve identified five areas designed to provide 360-degree support to our learners. We want our students to know they don’t have to “go it alone” when it comes to their education. We want them to feel we see their potential and recognize their unique life circumstances. And we want them to believe they’ll get the support they need to succeed in life and school.

The proof is in our myriad programs and resources. Here’s a partial snapshot of what we offer:

Financial

  • Opportunity Scholarship – a need- and program-based award to help reduce the cost of undergraduate tuition
  • The Key Grant Scholarship – NU provides equitable access to education, helping reduce student debt with a 50% discount on tuition, up to $10,000 annually
  • Free e-books for the military – waives the cost of all e-books for active-duty military members
  • Student emergency grants – small grants given to students for life emergencies helping them stay in school
  • Financial aid advisors – 1:1 assistance for finding resources to help students pay for school

  • Free tutoring – scheduled weekly tutoring sessions for any subject
  • Writing and Math Centers – Schedule online and on-site consultations for assistance with mathematical and academic writing assignments
  • Student Academic Success Center – support services for individual coaching, time management, study skills, and accessing resources
  • Student Accessibility Services – provides equitable access for students with disabilities, such as testing accommodations, ASL interpreting/captioning, and assistive technology
  • Academic Advisors – 1:1 support from enrollment to commencement to ensure successful program completion
  • Strong Start Workshop – Prepares students to begin their first course
  • Advanced Research Center – Supports and guides students, alums, faculty, and staff by offering publications, presentations, and research materials

  • Student Wellness Services – provides an entire spectrum of care from self-serve resources to personalized support for challenges including divorce, custody, domestic violence, housing, and safe childcare
  • Concern Center – a searchable database of resources for all things wellness
  • Silver Cloud Health – online behavioral health provider
  • TimelyMD – free, on-demand remote mental health counseling

  • Online and onsite programs – convenient course schedules to balance work, life and school
  • 15 student organizations/clubs – connect with people who share similar interests and goals, both professionally and by affiliation
  • NearPeer – special interest area groups where students can connect, such as parenting
  • Center for Student Engagement and Activities Student Voice blog – an online blog written by students, for students

  • Handshake job portal – a customized job portal platform with personalized job recommendations
  • NU Mentoring Network – an online mentor network for students and alumni where they can connect for 1:1 career conversations.
  • NU Speaker Series – professional development webinars featuring thought leaders
  • Career Services – career counseling, job fairs, interviewing techniques, resume and cover letter review, and more
