A painting by Annette Cyr of National University’s College of Letters and Sciences, has been selected to be part of the Athenaeum’s 23rd Annual Juried Exhibition in La Jolla, Calif. Cyr’s work was chosen from over 1,100 images submitted by 220 artists for the prestigious event. The opening reception takes place Friday, Aug. 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., when first, second and third place honors will be awarded by jurors from prominent arts institutions. The event is free and open to the public.
Open only to artists who live, work, or have exhibited in San Diego, the Athenaeum’s annual juried exhibition provides a platform for local artists to receive excellent exposure and to draw inspiration from talented peers. The exhibition’s opening reception takes place at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, 1008 Wall Str., in La Jolla, CA. The work of Annette Cyr and that of the other 42 chosen artists will continue to be displayed Aug. 2-30th at the Athenaeum’s Joseph Clayes III and Rotunda galleries.
Cyr is Associate Professor and Lead Faculty of Art at National University’s College of Letters and Sciences. Her painting on acrylic sheet, “Blocking/Supporting,” comes from her “Women in Predicaments” series, which explores the concept of how life imposes a kaleidoscope of phases in adulthood, experienced but not often acknowledged. The “Women in Predicaments” series tracks these phases and “pins” them to the wall.
“We are proud of the work and recognition received by Annette Cyr as it speaks to the quality of instruction and the high standards we have for our students in the College of Letters and Sciences at National University,” said Dean Carol Richardson of National University’s College of Letters and Sciences.
Annette Cyr received her MFA in Painting from Yale University, and upon graduation was awarded Yale’s Winternitz Fellowship. Her painting has been awarded numerous awards including an NEA Fellowship in Painting, as well as grants from Art Matters, Inc. and NYSCA, and artist residencies at Yaddo and MacDowell art colonies. She divides her time between New York and California.
