May 17 event celebrates exceptional teaching by recognizing San Diego County District Teachers of the Year, including 13 National University Alumni
San Diego, Calif. – May 15, 2019– In recognition of exceptional PreK-12 teachers, National University joins the San Diego Padres in honoring San Diego County teachers as the presenting partner of the Padres’ annual Educator Appreciation Night at their May 17 game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Petco Park.
The private, nonprofit National University has a strong tradition of educating the region’s teachers and is also involved in leading a nationwide initiative to support the work of inspiring teachers— Sanford Inspire. During an on-field presentation, the Padres and National University will recognize San Diego County’s 50 newly named district Teachers of the Year. National University President Dr. David Andrews and Dean Dr. Judy Mantle will be personally congratulating 13 of the 2020 Teachers of the Year as they are graduates of National University’s Sanford College of Education, which is among the top ten largest schools of education in the country.
“Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of workforce professionals,” said Dr. David Andrews, president at National University. “Their efforts have lasting positive effects on our youth, which helps us build a stronger society. We are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our exceptional alumni and others who have been selected to represent the best of San Diego County.”
During Friday’s game, National University will be hosting Sanford College of Education alumni and regional superintendents and teacher leaders for a reception and the game. The Sanford College of Education is known for its commitment to quality teaching, as well as its prominence in serving a diverse student population. Over the past 20-plus years, more than 100 National University alumni throughout the state of California have been recognized as teachers of the year at the local, state and national level.
In addition to its teacher education programs, National University is also supporting ongoing teacher development through its role leading the national expansion of two research-based programs that address student development and achievement. The programs are Sanford Harmony, a social emotional learning program for PreK-6 classrooms now reaching more than 6.5 million students, and Sanford Inspire, which offers training modules that feature research-based teaching approaches to create inspiring PreK-12 classrooms. Both programs are being disseminated nationally through National University and the National University System.
