National University’s Master of Public Health program receives accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health

San Diego, Calif. – National University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program has received accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the university announced today.

“Receiving accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health is critical for our students,” said Dr. GinaMarie Piane, Program Lead for the Master of Public Health and Chair of National University’s Department of Community Health. “Graduating from an accredited Master of Public Health program will open more doors to public health employment, especially for our military students.”

National University’s Master of Public Health is a graduate professional degree designed to prepare students for leadership positions in health promotion and disease prevention. The program first began enrolling students in April 2009, and the first cohort graduated in 2011. The program is offered onsite in San Diego at the university’s Technology and Health Sciences Center in Kearny Mesa as well as fully online. Students in the Master of Public Health are required to select one of three specializations: Health Promotion, Mental Health, or Healthcare Administration. The curriculum for the onsite and online programs is identical.

CEPH accreditation serves multiple purposes for different constituents. In general, specialized accreditation attests to the quality of an educational program that prepares for entry into a recognized profession. For prospective students and their parents, accreditation serves a consumer protection purpose. Accreditation provides assurance that the school or program has been evaluated and has met accepted standards established by and with the profession. For graduates, accreditation promotes professional mobility and enhances employment opportunities in positions that base eligibility upon graduation from an accredited school or program.
