National University to Cover Tuition Costs for Active Duty Military Students During Government Shutdown

San Diego, Calif. – National University is supporting its active duty military students by covering their tuition costs during the months of October and November. The decision was made by National University President Dr. Michael Cunningham to ensure the Federal Government shutdown does not adversely impact active duty military students seeking their degrees at National University.

Active members of the armed forces represent nearly 13 percent of National University’s 30,000 students across its 45 locations throughout California and across the nation as well as students taking courses online.

“We are not going to allow a government shutdown to adversely impact the academic pursuits of our active duty military students,” said Dr. Cunningham. “Our nation has a shortage of citizens with four-year and advanced degrees. To maintain our position in the global economy we must continue to ensure those who want to pursue a degree have the opportunity to do so, especially those who have served our country so honorably.”

National University hopes that the government shutdown ends swiftly, but wants to ensure its active duty military students don’t endure additional financial stress during this period of uncertainty. The offer covers active duty military students who received approval for courses prior to the government shutdown. If the government does not retroactively cover tuition, National University will credit each student’s account.
