ECE 652: Understanding Young Children: Cognition and the Growing Child
Course Description
Deepen understanding of the capabilities of young children thinking skills. Focus is on current research. Opportunities to examine learning research in light of current educational reform efforts and develop practical application. Addresses NCATE/NAEYC Advanced Standard 1: Promoting child development and learning and Standard 5: Growing as a professional.
Learning Outcomes
- Summarize current theory and research regarding cognition and the growing child.
- Analyze and articulate the strengths and challenges of current research and theory upon education.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of this research for educators by modifying an existing curriculum and/or approach to program content.
- Prepare a proposal for further, action based, research within your own classroom that will contribute to the current research base.
