ECE 651:Promoting Child Development and Learning: Transitions

Course Description

Focuses on current issues on early childhood. Particular attention paid to the transition to Kindergarten. Multiple perspectives considered. Addresses NAEYC/NCATE Advanced Standard 1: Promoting Child Development and Learning, Standard 2: Building Family and Community Relationships, Standard 4: Teaching and Learning and Standard 5: Growing as a professional.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the critical factors that impact a young child's developmental and learning transitions.
  • Analyze and discuss the strengths, challenges and importance of addressing key transitions.
  • Demonstrate understanding by creating a plan to address transition issues that includes all stake holders: the child, the primary caregivers, teachers and administrators.
