Course Description

In this course candidates will demonstrate knowledge and ability to support the movement, mobility, sensory and specialized health care needs required for students to access school and the community to the fullest extent of their ability through utilizing appropriate techniques, procedures, materials, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment. Candidates will also demonstrate mandated considerations for assistive, augmentative, alternative, and sign language communication technology for students with moderate/severe disabilities and their application to facilitate communication, improved academic performance, and skill.

Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate knowledge and ability to support the movement, mobility, sensory and specialized health care needs required for students to access school and the community to the fullest extent of their ability, utilizing appropriate techniques, procedures, materials, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laws and policies related to specialized health care in educational settings.
• Demonstrate successful consultation/collaboration with staff and parents, to provide the appropriate support across all settings.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the procedures to procure services and access professionals/agencies to acquire information for sensory, movement, mobility and specialized health care services.
