Course Description
This course is designed to assist you in developing an understanding of the philosophical, political, legal, and fiscal variables including cultural and linguistic diversity that impact contemporary issues, trends, and practices in the field of special education. Basic principles of professional behavior with respect to pupils, peers, administrators, teachers, parents, families and community agencies will be reviewed.
Learning Outcomes
- Provide an understanding of the implementation of federal and state special education laws, regulations, judicial decisions and other compliance requirements.
- Develop knowledge of basic principles pertaining to ethical practices across all aspects of programming.
- Develop knowledge regarding recent research findings that impact present issues and trends in the field.
- Develop an understanding of the areas of particular concern such as multicultural issues, performance outcomes, restructuring of schools and other topics affecting exceptional children and youth.
