Course Description
Strategies to build supportive relationships with families. Develops knowledge and skills for sensitive communication. Helps to assist families in managing short and long term issues.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge and critically examine complex social or interpersonal situations in programs involving children and families.
- Demonstrate skills and strategies for communicating and collaborating with families and agencies, (a) communicate and consult with individuals, parents, and other school and community personnel, (b) demonstrate commitment to developing the highest educational and quality of life potential of individuals with exceptional learning needs.
- Demonstrate use of information generated by families to set short and long range goals for their children’s learning.
- Demonstrate respect for family structures, social and cultural backgrounds, choices and goals for their children and communicate with families about curriculum and individualized education programs.
