Course Description

This course exposes the students to the basic tenets of criminal behavior, the causative and contributory factors of behavior. It explores the general personality, intellectual and social perspectives of criminal behavior.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the foundations, utility and limitations of various theoretical explanations of criminal behavior including, but not limited to: biological, psychological, sociological and economic factors.
  • Understand how the different theories and explanations have evolved.
  • Evaluate the affect the different theories have in the criminal justice system.
  • Apply those theories to explain the current issues of juvenile delinquency.
  • Evaluate current criminal justice policies in the context of the different explanations of criminal behavior.
