MH Care: Children/Adolescents

Course Description

Evidence-based biopsychosocial assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with mental illness and/or developmental disorders are explored. Facilitate the knowledge of professional, policy and practice issues influencing the nurse practitioner’s role as mental health provider of children and adolescents with mental illness and/or developmental disorders.

Learning Outcomes

• Develop an age-appropriate treatment plan for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders based on biopsychosocial theories, evidence-based standards of care, and practice guidelines.
• Analyze patient-centered behavioral health care for children and adolescents in the context of care coordination, patient education, physical comfort, emotional support, and care transitions.
• Summarize current evidence regarding major diagnostic and treatment actions for children and adolescents with mental illness and/or developmental disorders.
• Design patient-centered and culturally responsive behavioral health strategies in the delivery of clinical prevention and health promotion interventions for children and adolescents.
