Qual Improvement Practicum

Course Description

During this 8 week course students conduct a quality improvement project under the supervision of a mentor or preceptor and the course instructor. Grading is S/U only.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze variation or problems in outcomes of health care or systems designed to support health care.
  • Identify, develop or participate in a QSEN related project focused on any one of the six core competencies.
  • Employ project management, consultative and leadership skills in a project designed to improve health care practice.
  • Evaluate the process and outcomes of a selected quality improvement project.

Requirements

This 8 week course requires 135 hours of a mentor/faculty/preceptor practice experience whereby students collaborate on a quality improvement project. Students are highly encouraged to identify mentors or preceptors early in the program but no later than 2-3 months prior to the course.
