Anesthesia Pharmacology I

Course Description

The anesthesia pharmacology course examines the unique pharmacologic agents that are specific to anesthesia administration. Focus will be placed on inhalation agents, induction drugs, neuromuscular blocker, adrenergic agents, and local anesthetics.

Learning Outcomes

  • Appraise general pharmacological principles.
  • Evaluate the mechanism of drug receptor sites binding and drug interactions.
  • Examine the effects of drugs on the nervous system.
  • Defend the principles of pharmcodynamics and pharmacokinetics to anesthesia practice.

Requirements

Students are expected to attend all class and lab sessions, actively in class/lab activities and discussions, complete examinations as scheduled, and to turn in all assignments on time. Students are also expected to read all assigned material to the class session in which the material is presented and be prepared to contribute to discussion and dialogue.
