Course Description

School administrator’s perspective of instructional theory, curriculum development and methods for aligning course content to articulated goals and evaluation procedures. Student understanding of course content will be developed through class discussions, curriculum projects, presentations and reflective analysis.

Learning Outcomes

• Describe multiple models of learning and identify the relationship between learning theories and models of teaching.
• Understand the importance of a harmonious relationship between intended curriculum and the choice of the teaching model.
• Define desired outcomes of curriculum and develop strategies for accomplishing those outcomes.
• Develop strategies and techniques to monitor and evaluate the extent that the delivered curriculum meets the expected articulated learning outcomes.
• Identify and carry out changes in curriculum necessary to meet desired learning outcomes.
• Describe the relationship of California State mandated tests and the evaluation of local school district curriculum.
• Synthesize assessment instruments used for the selection of new instructional programs with an understanding of the difference between evaluation and design.
• Develop curriculum that is aligned with both local community needs and state mandated tests.
• Provide written evidence of knowledge of major models of teaching, their integration into the development of curriculum, and an ability to evaluate and align curriculum to meet the needs of diverse school sites in an APA formatted paper submitted as partial fulfillment of course requirements.
